Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C)

  Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS) is a rare but serious condition that can occur in children and adults who have been infected with COVID-19. It is believed to be an inflammatory response to the virus that can affect multiple organ systems. MIS has been classified into two different conditions: MIS-C (Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children) and MIS-A (Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Adults). It is important to recognize the signs and symptoms of MIS early on, as prompt diagnosis and treatment can lead to better outcomes. MIS can cause fever, gastrointestinal symptoms, rash, and cardiac complications, among other things. Diagnosis of MIS is typically based on blood tests, imaging studies, and a thorough medical history and physical exam.
